Operation Upgrade

Based in South Africa, Operation Upgrade works with literacy projects. Its approach is that social change is the goal, but that this involves the development of strong literacy skills. For this reason, the Operation Upgrade literacy component of any adult basic education curriculum is strongly structured.

In addition Operation Upgrade trains educators to develop literacy lessons based on the real needs of learners, so that local issues such as AIDS, child abuse or the shortage of water, are incorporated into the programme.
